Week 1

I met with my mentor this week to discuss the capstone project I was interested in writing about. While Beverly Henion is my preferred mentor, he is also a CRNA and more than willing to offer mentorship through my capstone course. Nonetheless, I am also excited to get to know Beverly closely, particularly because she’s such a knowledgeable mentor. Beverly agreed that with the amount of surgical site infections (SSIs), the facility had seen some patients return to the operating room. I discussed with Beverly different types of prep solutions being used and the effectiveness of each, and whether or not this could contribute to the surgical site infection rates. I also asked the staff about their opinions of evidence-based practices regarding prep solutions. Although Beverly and I collaborated and exchanged phone numbers and emails, she also provided her license and resume so I could converse with this week’s course objectives. During week one, I learnt the need to use prep solutions appropriately in line with evidence-based practice to impact patient outcomes positively.
