Social media has become widely used in workplaces and at home.  Information communication technology is also used in nursing to help nurses develop informatics competencies. According to Jackson, Fraser, and Ash (2014), social media is one of the technological advancements that has redefined nursing practice. Similarly, Ventola (2014) alleges that social media has become an important part of nurses as far as their personal and professional lives are concerned. Nonetheless, while social media benefits nurses, inappropriate use can lead to legal issues such as malpractice claims, disciplinary actions, and job termination.

Nurses have different social media networks, including media sharing sites, social networking platforms, microblogs, and wikis (Ventola, 2014). All these tools are important in improving professional networking, patient education, patient care, and public health initiatives.  Therefore, I have engaged in various conversations and posts through social media to network, share information, and connect with friends and colleagues. Among these posts, I have come across unprofessional behaviour that is not consistent with professional nursing standards.
