IHP 501 Journal : The Role of the Healthcare Professional in Policy Making
Any health care professional’s role in policymaking should be one that serves to influence impactful change regarding practice standards, resource allocation and quality of care. It is paramount that policies exist that appropriate standards about delivery of care and the conditions necessary for that care to occur (Burke, 2016). As we ponder which health care professions are positioned best to affect favorable reform, it is reasonable to suggest that those on the front lines of health care delivery are those most qualified to frame policy to be effective and efficient. Nurses fit this description. In fact, the International Council of Nurses “believes that nurses are key to improving access to quality and cost-effective care and to enhancing the health of populations.
