The US healthcare system has been changing from curative care centeredness to disease prevention and wellness. In addition, healthcare reform such as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) has transformed healthcare delivery models and nursing roles. The ACA enacted reforms focused on enhancing the affordability and accessibility of quality care (Collins & Saylor, 2018). ACA also fostered the creation of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI), and Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction Program (HACRP) as well as medical homes. In turn, these models have promoted the aspect of continuity of care while changing nursing roles from front-line providers to care coordinators.
